Here's an interesting topic I had thought about awhile back but didn't know how to put it in proper context.
Decentralized data if you will.
Essentially, data can be propagated as a service.
So instead of having a super power house, one stop shopping such as Google or Bing, you could have many mini search places that gather data from across the web.
And in the future, instead of querying a local database or a database in the cloud directly, you could do joins between tables / databases exposed to the internet scattered throughout the world.
And in order to do this, you would have to specify the data domain of where the data was from.
A unique way to identify the source of the data.
I mentioned this in one of my blogs last year but this is the first time I've seen it in the mainstream.
The future of IT is DATA.
To make informed decisions and manage the business.
Data is going to g-r-o-w.
Hang on for the ride!
